Synthetic Shifts: Community Center for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing

Stonybrook, Boston, MA

Professor: Julian Geltman

Studio 03 | Fall 2023

The Synthetic Shifts Community Center caters to the deaf, hard of hearing, and those with disabilities by seamlessly merging their daily experience with that of architectural spaces.

Muted tones and accentuated elements create visual harmony throughout the building, emphasizing inclusivity and accessibility.

Open areas facilitate dynamic communication and curiosity by incorporating vertical elements and an extensive array of fenestrations. These design elements not only utilize sunlight for wayfinding, but also promote human interaction and connection.
